Hi everyone: I’m so relieved that every single one of you is safe and sound after last week’s tragic fires— what a confusing, frightening, devastating time… made all the more challenging because of how helpless we all felt. I feel grateful and blessed that we all made it through this, our spa in Sonoma County is still standing and our teams feel more strongly united than ever. La Reina and I love you all very much and will continue to protect, support and help you as we all recover and heal as a community in the weeks ahead.
To our Sonoma County Team: I want you to know how truly exceptional you all are. We’ve been through our share of ups and downs together over the last five years, and you’ve continuously astonished me by your selflessness, care for one another and your ability to set aside your own lives to jump into action on behalf of your colleagues. Your character was never more evident than during the last week — — just hours after evacuations many of you were out there volunteering in shelters and feeding first responders. You amaze me, always — and I’m incredibly proud of all of you. I’m telling you this — straight up — because none of you know how exceptional you are…. To you, you’re just simply being the same person you wake up and be every day; you have no idea how special you are. Whenever I’m exhausted, feeling alone or afraid, you continue to inspire me to keep creating, keep growing and try to do and be better every day.
To our Marin County Team: Thank you for being so incredibly supportive, understanding and concerned about our crew up north, and stepping up big here in Sausalito so we could re-direct love and attention to Sonoma County. Arielle, Lexi, Alethea, Madeleine — a special thank you for being so wonderful, flexible and caring.
Together, we are in a unique position of bringing care, nurturing, healing and sanctuary to thousands of people across two counties in the coming months. People need you — and your work — more vitally than ever. Moreover they need our steady calm, our safe space, our reliable sanctuary. They will need us to create and hold the space for their raw emotion and grief and be met with tenderness and warmth.
Most of you didn’t get to be the amazing person you are today because you had an easy road in life. More true is that your strength and resiliency was forged through adversity & circumstances many others couldn’t have come through — — today you are the brave, strong, compassionate healers you are because of what you have overcome. We’re at the very beginning of a transformation in our society in so many ways — and like every major change in history, it is going to be accompanied by much ugly, outdated resistance, fierce opposition and strong societal turbulence. Fortunately, you are the people most able to weather the storms — with your inner spiritual center, your deep rooted authenticity and your beautiful resiliency — and our community needs you more than ever to lead the way and embody the qualities we most need in the world.
I do believe that you all represent the best in human nature, and what we have the potential to become as a society. This very time in history — now — is our call to arms for change and it is all of you who will show people the way forward: grace, humility, sharing, collaboration, interdependence, connection, care, community, transparency, joy, empathy, listening, understanding, softness, love.
So, from here, the first thing we need to do is make sure all of you are feeling strong, loved and supported, and constantly co-creating that with each other. We will be each other’s steadfast support, which will enable us to care for a great many others. La Reina and I, along with our desk teams, will do our best to give you all the loving foundation we can so you can bring your best to the world each day. Please take care of your special beings, your minds, your bodies and your hearts.
And WEAR YOUR FACE MASKS, Sonoma County people. Or, else! ;)
See you all soon!
